Ken Smith

Ken has been practising as an osteopath, acupuncturist and naturopath for over 30 years. He is the founder and principal therapist of Orchard Lodge Clinic in Malvern (est. 1982).

Ken has considerable experience in treating a wide variety of musculo-skeletal conditions, and has a special interest in the treatment of chronic joint dysfunction and arthritis.

Ken offers osteopathic physical therapy, complemented by a combination of acupuncture, electrotherapy and advice on exercise, posture, nutrition and lifestyle, depending on the patient’s needs and preferences.

Using this multi-disciplinary approach, Ken has been able to treat arthritic joint dysfunction very successfully, helping to reduce pain and increase mobility for patients. During the early stages of arthritic joint degeneration, this treatment can help to defer, or in some cases avoid, the need for surgery. Treatment can also help to improve the outcome of surgery, by ensuring that the patient’s physical condition is optimised before they have their operation. This is sometimes referred to as ‘prehabilitation’ treatment.

Ken holds a BSc. (Hons.) in Chemistry from London University and a Diploma in Education from Birmingham University. He took his Diploma in Osteopathy and Naturopathy with the College of Osteopaths in London, and his Licentiate in Acupuncture with the British College of Acupuncture. He has taken further training in cranial osteopathy, clinical nutrition, and myoneural therapy.
Ken is registered with the General Osteopathic Council and the British Acupuncture Council, and is a senior lecturer with The College of Osteopaths (Middlesex University). He is also a member of the Register of Naturopaths and the International Cranial Association.

Ken works at Orchard Lodge Clinic.
